It Feels Like It's Been So Long!

Sorry for not updating sooner, but I've been incredibly busy. Just a few notes on what's been happening over the past few weeks.

Friends: T and I made up! Thank goodness, I was going crazy after not being able to talk to her for 2 weeks! It was a very low-key reconciliation, but I think it was good for our friendship as we had never fought before, and I, at least, realized exactly how much our friendship means to me.

School: School has been just as busy as before, but it's becoming more manageable, or I'm getting more efficient, not sure which! I'm very excited for this weekend, as it's a five-day weekend because of Thanksgiving! Of course, I have a huge paper and test on Monday, but I'll enjoy the weekend until I need to start homework =) Oh, and I just have to say, I am so thankful to my teachers who gave me extensions on tests and projects because of the play (see below), I don't think I could have survived if I hadn't gotten the extensions!

Other: As I have done for the past few years, I teched the play at my school. The first time, I ran follow-spot, the second time, the light board, and this time, I helped design lights! It's always a really fun experience (despite the little sleep you get doing tech rehearsals and shows), and I love being able to see the show five, six, or even seven times, especially when it's a show as good as the one this past weekend. I also got a lot closer with many of the theater people, which I really enjoyed, and spent Saturday night at the amazing cast party!

Kind of relating to the last, I'm also designing lights for our second annual pantomime, which opens in just two short weeks! This does mean another tech week, and more long hours with not enough time to do homework, but pantomime is always super fun =)

That's it for now - I'm sure I'll update again after Thanksgiving. Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

How Wonderful S Is

I'm being coerced into writing this by one of my friends, S (who is also dictating). Basically, S is the best person in the world. She is beautiful, simply beautiful. I wish I could do all of S's homework for her, just because she is so great. I would take her tests for her because that's how wonderful she is. I would bake a turkey for her, but she doesn't like turkeys. Well, they're actually okay, in her opinion. She prefers chicken. That's why I find S so wonderful. She should be on So You Think You Can Dance. I <3 S.

It's the Little Things In Life

My best friend (let's call her T to make things easier) and I are still fighting. No new news there, unfortunately. But, like the old saying goes, "every cloud has a silver lining." I've learned that the newer friends I've made these past few years are true friends, and can't thank them enough for listening to me rant, or cry, or argue.

One of my other best friends (V) was best friends with T before she became friends with me, and though I haven't been close with V for long, I really treasure her as a friend. I was worried, however, that my fight with T would make her choose sides, and I thought she would choose T's side, since they have been friends for longer.

Luckily for both T and I, V has refused to pick sides, and is doing her best to remain neutral. I think it's kept all of us sane and functioning, which I know I wouldn't be without both T and V.

In addition, last weekend, my cousin (who is like a sister to me), came home for the weekend to spend time with our family. I hadn't seen her in a while, and it was good to get to talk to someone who doesn't really know anyone in the story. My cousin is always logical and is one of the best people to vent with! =)

Finally, for an English project in which we are profiling a stranger, I had a lunch interview with the woman I have chosen to profile. Though I knew her before this project, I had never really talked to her. As I found out during the interview, however, she is an incredibly interesting person with an amazing story, and I can't wait to write this paper, as I think it will turn out very well.

Even though life pretty much sucks right now, I'm learning to enjoy and appreciate the little things. Sometimes, it's all we can do.

Stress

Today is one of those days where I feel that I can't do anything right. I'm trying to juggle school, work, riding, friends, and still have some time leftover for myself, and that's not happening.

School right now is at an all time high in stress level. It seems that every time I turn around, there is a new project or test or paper or report due. My test calendar has *one* free day for the month of November, every other day I have something due. It's all adding up, and for the first time in my life, I can't do everything. School usually comes easily to me, but this year, I've had to work, and work hard.

Work: I work at a local barn, teaching horseback riding lessons to young girls twice a week. I work 4 hours per week, two on Tuesday and two on Thursday. It's hard work, but rewarding. I've recently asked for a raise (from $10 per hour to $12), since the gas and travel time make it not worth it to me - I drive half an hour each way to work, and my car gets about twenty miles per gallon. My employers denied me the raise, saying, validly, that I didn't have enough experience. At first, I wanted to just quit, but I've fallen in love with two of my students (the most adorable little girls you will ever meet), and have decided to cut down my hours to just Thursday. The money I make still isn't worth it, but because I'm teaching those two girls, I will make it work.

Ever since my horse tore his ligament in June, I've been hopping around from horse to horse, just riding whatever I can get my hands on. It's a really good experience for me, but it does mean that I cannot compete at the level I want to, and cannot move up to the next level (which was my plan had my horse not gotten injured). I ride three days per week, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Right now, I'm leasing an adorable green mare for the month of November, and hope to lease an experienced gelding (that I can compete at the next level on) starting in December. Riding is probably the one area of my life that I have the least stress, thank goodness.

My friends at school are feeling many of the same pressures that I am, and contrary to popular belief, misery does *not* like company. It's made us all a little crabbier and a little quicker to snap at each other, which doesn't help the stress. All I can do is deal with my own stress, and just try to be there for my friends, something that is easier said than done when I am getting yelled at every few minutes. One of my very best friends recently got very upset at me. Because of that, she has not talked to me for the past few days, unless she absolutely had to. This hurts more than I care to admit, because this friend and I have gone through absolutely everything together and have never had a fight like this before. I know it will all work out in the end, but it's hard to have hope when the person you usually talk to about things like this is the one not talking to you.

This is Me

"Dare me, defy me, challenge me, but never underestimate me."

This quotation is the inspiration for this blog. Some days I live by it, other days I can't understand how I get out of bed, let alone there. I guess this isn't really the right time in my life to start a blog, there is just way too much going on. I figure, though, that now is better than never. Some of my problems may seem petty or immature, but in this moment, in this lifetime, they can be more than I can handle.

So, who am I? I am a student. I enjoy long walks on the beach and... just kidding! I live for my friends, they are the reason I am who I am today, and I don't know what I would do without them. I am an equestrienne, and proud of it. I attend a highly-academic private school. I love musicals. I own a dog, a snake and two turtles. I can't wait to leave my house. I eat only coffee ice cream, any other flavor disgusts me (except for vanilla on rare days). Reese's peanut butter cups are my food staple. I was Tiger Lily from Peter Pan for Halloween. I'm just me.

Now, even though I've started this blog, I can't guarantee that I'll continue it. Might as well give it a try though!
